Rajbhar means
"The best among the kings". According to British historian General Cunningham Bhar or Rajbhar is the branch of Bharg of mirzapur
district. The Rajbhar are the descendants of Aryan who ruled north India long ago. Deoria, Mathura, Allahabad, Jaunpur, Faizabad,
Mirzapur, Varanasi were ruled by Rajbhars for centuries. The town of Bhodohi (Formerly known as Bhardoi) was named after Bhar
community.
Rajbhar caste resides in eastern Uttar Pradesh and other parts of this country and the world.They speak Bhojpuri,
Awadhi and other regional languages where they are residing. In Uttar Pradesh Ballia, Azamgarh, Gorakhpur, Jaunpur, Ghazipur,
Gonda, Varanasi, Deoria, Faizabad, Basti, Mau and Maharajganj are the districts where near about 2 million people of this
community belongs. The other states where this caste also resides are Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Bihar, West Bengal. The
major cities where majority of this community are living are Kolkata, Mumbai, Allahabad, New Delhi, Lucknow, Gorakhpur,
Ballia, Azamgarh, Jaunpur, Varanasi, Deoria etc. The gotra of Rajbhar caste is Bhardwaj (the guru of Lord Rama i.e. Maharshi Bhardwaj). Rajbhar caste is also known as Bhar, Bhardwaj, Ray, Rai, Singh, Bharg, Kalhans, Nagbanshiya, Bharat, Bharpatwa
etc.
